Dear Alan,

It is a great pleasure to invite you to The 2008 Growth and Jobs Summit, which will take place at the Résidence Palace in Brussels on 04 March 2008. Gathering a few days before the spring European Council, we are particularly pleased, and indeed honoured, to welcome José Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission. In addition, we have many other highlights, including our very popular Economic Outlook Session with key members of the Lisbon Council Board of Economists, as well as the launch of The 2008 European Growth and Jobs Monitor, which we publish together with the economic research unit of Allianz SE, and that has within a very short period of time become a key indicator for the state of the European economy.

In the afternoon, we are inviting about 30 trusted collaborators, including you, to two interactive workshops. One will feature a top-level briefing and interactive discussion on the Lisbon Agenda package 2008-2010, which was launched by the European Commission in December 2007 and which will be discussed by EU leaders at the spring European Council. The other is a presentation of the landmark project undertaken by the OECD on Europe and the World: Measuring the Progress of Societies. We are delighted to have the two key individuals who are driving these processes – Gerard de Graaf from the European Commission’s Secretariat-General and Enrico Giovannini, the OECD’s chief statistician – with us.
